All over the place, e-bay, country towns, second hand shops, FB Market place. I love the hunt for beads. If I’m driving and there’s a park near a shop, it means I am meant to call in.
I even have family friends from my home town area who have sent me beads that belonged to family members. They’re very precious those ones.

No sorry, no changes. Often when you change a bead it upsets the balance. There really is a system in the randomness, this system is difficult to replicate. often the bead that gives the buzz is gone. Totally unique necklaces, no copies.

Unfortunately not. It is not possible to replicate the designs due to the randomness of the beads. While it looks like there is no pattern, there is a “system”. The look of the necklace is dependent on the combination of beads, the shape, size and the texture of the chosen beads is what makes the necklace so unique. No copies, totally unique.

I put them all into a deep casserole dish, then I take each necklace and I separate them. If they are knotted between beads this can be time consuming, but there is a system and it is perhaps helping my dexterity. The beads are then sorted and stored in colours ready to be used at a later date. As you can imagine there are many shades of each colour, for example I have about five containers of red beads, four or so containers of green beads. As you can imagine there are many, many shades of blue, pale blue, sky blue, aqua blue, navy blue, denim blue, chambray blue etc etc. Then they are stored in a cupboard, as they’re used up they may then get transferred to smaller containers. It’s all about juggling space! I’m constantly sorting and organising them, coming up with a new and better storage idea!

There seem to be lots of red beads in the world. In the hunt for beads you can find some gems. Recently I realized how few blue beads there are, I went looking at many of my local favourite spots for some blue beads for a commission I was doing.
There also seems to be a shortage of yellow beads.
Once you realize what is missing in the collection it seems to make the hunt more purposeful.

It certainly has. Originally I was using parrot clasps that were about 4mm, they were very very small and difficult to use. The wire I first used was very light and less durable. Most of my materials have been updated since I started. I think the necklaces I make now are much stronger than the first ones I made. The quality of the magnet closure and the toggles is exceptional. Sometimes it can be hard to source these stronger closures, there are many colouful necklaces available on the market, I don’t see any that have the quality of closures that Mrs McPearl uses. The addition of the very personal disc with th elogo signature helps to give the necklaces a professional look. Often the crimp cover have an “organic” look. These are all handcrafted. Some companies use machinery to do the closures, not Mrs McPearl, all personally handcrafted. Totally unique, no copies.
If anyone has any issues with their older stock, let me know and I will re-thread for you!
